ENVIRONMENT + SERVICES DESIGN REPORT
REGENT ROAD MIXED-USE BUILDING
PUBLIC SPACE + HIGH DENSITY LIVING
Thermal Mass
By providing thermal mass (270mm brick walls and concrete slabs) this allows the spaces to stay cool during the day by absorbing all the heat and which is radiated back at night when it cool and the space needs heating. The bar roof is concrete which would also provide thermal mass.

Orientation
All apartments have north facing living spaces with overhangs. This gives each apartment spaces with natural direct light for pleasant out door patios. Part of my concept is to replace the aspects which suburban homes provide. North facing generous balconies are a substitute for a garden.
THERMAL COMFORT
Solar Shading
The north side of the building makes use of vertical over hangs and vertical slats to shade the high angle north sun in summer and let the low angle winter sun in. This passive design keeps the interior cool in summer by blocking the sun and lets in sun in winter to warm up the interior.
